Thankful Tuesday

Pants: Fashion Express; Shirt: Mr Price; Shoes & Bag: ALDO; Collar: Sass Diva

[Things I'm thankful for.]
Stretch pants. Pyjama-like pants. Even better if one pants has both qualities.
A camera that lies. I don't look half as horrible as I feel (no thanks to you, stuffy nose).
Lots of sunshine this weekend (perhaps too much sun?).
Family time over the weekend. Husband, parents, brothers, sisters, aunts, cousins - the whole lot.
Domestic help, especially on the Tuesday after the long weekend.
A successful work trip.
Coming home to Husband after said trip.
This blog. I missed you.
My own bed.
The nineteen week milestone.

Thanks to Lerato for these pictures.

Let's [Not] Pretend

Jeans & Sunglasses: Woolworths; Top: Fashion Express: Shoes: ALDO; Bag: Gifted Prada; Necklace: YDE;

Arlene spoke very little in this post, but she said so much. She was real, and I was inspired. There's an amount of vanity in every woman. In fact, men too. I think a certain amount of vanity is healthy, as it encourages us to take care of our bodies and our image - to always try to be the best version of ourselves. But when we go overboard, it can become pretentious.

The blogosphere can be very pretentious. It involves staring into fake distances, and fake laughing to get the best shot. I'm overtly aware of how I am perceived here. I don't want to come across as vain, though personal style blogging involves displaying ample pictures of yourself. But I also want to look pretty.

There's a fine line here - and I think we (by we, I don't mean bloggers only) can only reach a good balance if we're real. Be real today. Don't smile at someone and start gossiping the minute they walk away. Don't try so hard to look cute that you miss an opportunity to laugh! Don't talk about a particular topic just because you think it would impress people. Don't be afraid of exposing the real you - flawed and all! These are a lot of don'ts (oh, the list is endless!), but I think being real takes a conscious decision - despite the fact that it's the most natural You. I really want to be true to my character by being real, every day. If I forget, remind me okay :)

Happy weekend!

Pink [for Him]

"People who say real men don't wear pink obviously don't know any real men."
Scott Disick

I'm so glad I got to blog this look today. I love that blazer, Husband!

Awkward & Awesome Wednesday

Skirt, Blazer &  Bag: Mr Price; Top: Piccadilly; Shoes: Sissy Boy; Necklace: Sass Diva; Belt: Gifted

I'm a huge fan of Sydney's Awkward & Awesome Thursdays, and they were particularly interesting during her pregnancy so here's the beginning of Awkward & Awesome Wednesdays (I couldn't wait until tomorrow to start!). I can't promise that it'll be as funny as Sydney's, but it's definitely a tradition I'd like to continue over here. Pregnancy has given me ample awkwards to document, although I'm generally awkward anyway, so it should be fun! We all have those awesome and, well, not so awesome moments - I hope I have the guts to be real!

Awkward:
- A really weak pregnancy bladder - thank God nobody else witnessed it. Although, it's double awkward that you know this now too. I'll spare you the details.
- Biting on a pencil to soothe my aching gums. In the office. With a colleague staring as I try to speak.
- Trying to work a toothpick after breakfast/lunch/supper - in a restaurant - is pretty awkward too.
- The urge to press my stomach out a little, when in public. "It's not a pooch, it's a baby bump." Can I just have a t-shirt already?!
- Asking the cashier for R1 because I don't have enough money to pay my parking ticket - and don't want to walk all the way to the bank. Yes, I'm the girl who does that. One awkward moment later, I had change for my parking, thank you nice cashier man.
- A very old awkward moment, involving a bus, a breeze, and a mini skirt. The result still haunts me.

Awesome:
- A perfect twirl, ballerina style... happening in my belly. This baby's a dancer.
- Husband coming home after a long day. It never gets old. Most times I pretend to be sleeping, and I'm like "Surprise!" (meaning, "I'm not really sleeping!"). Okay, the latter's a little more awkward than awesome. Send all complaints to my parents, Husband.
- Finding left over anything in the fridge, and it tastes fine.
- Discovering that traffic is not as bad as anticipated.
- Sorting the wardrobe, and finding a piece you had forgotten about. It's like Christmas, almost.
- Ginger & Honey tea that tastes way better than expected. And it works wonders for a cold/flu/whatever I've got.

Thank you for coming by! Here's to laughing at the awkward moments - and savouring the awesome ones!

Tangerine [for Him]

I love navy blue. I love it on me, I love it on him. And how awesome with a dash of tangerine? I'm really going to love these loafers in the Summer. It's going to be gorgeous with his knees out shorts on!

I enjoy drawing inspiration from boys - and this colour combo I want to replicate.

Dressing a Baby Bump

Baby bump at 17 weeks.

Dress & Shoes: Rage; Boyfriend Blazer & Bag: Mr Price; Sunglasses: China Town

While it hasn't been particularly challenging yet, I am thinking about ways to dress this growing bump. Traditionally, you'd tuck it away under loose clothing, but I think women are showing off their pregnant bodies proudly these days. Gone are the days of sack-resembling empire lines (at least I hope so)! My guideline will be comfort (so no, I'm not trying to squeeze my little person into high waist pants - as much as I love those pants, the zips just won't keep up), while maintaining my personal style. That means I will also wear heels until my body tells me otherwise (just don't tell my mother).

I didn't consider any of this when getting dressed this morning, I will admit. Quick and easy were the only two words that guided me! It's not my favourite (and I probably wouldn't pair this blazer with this dress again), but I think I'm ready for this new style challenge.

If you've faced this challenge yourself, what is your formula? We can take this topic to twitter too. Follow me here

Thank you for coming by. Here's to a great week!

Weekend Shorts [for Him]

Husband makes for good outfit posts, so I'm going to make this a weekly thing. I mean, I cannot let the fact that he has finally agreed to let me take a zillion pictures (without moaning, too much) go to waste! I like the colours together, and who wears a pocket square with such ease!? Husband does. Inspired.

Thank you for coming by. Have a super weekend.

Spring Pink

Dress: Vintage via Lost & Found; Belt: Mr Price; Shoes: Zara; Bag: SAFW Pop Up Shop; Sunglasses: China Town

Lwazi took these pictures on Monday, perhaps before the appearance of a baby bump - or maybe it was just neatly tucked away? Thank you so much for your sweet well wishes - this is such an exciting time for us, and I'm glad to be able to share the journey with you all.

I wore this dress on the blog the exact time last year (just as Spring hit); it's my happy dress and the perfect way to welcome the sunshine!

Thank you for coming by.
I promise, a Giveaway is really on the way!
