A Letter to Isaiah

May 3rd, 2012
Dear Isaiah

We've heard it before, but you only really understand when you’re going through it – it’s not that easy making a baby. In just a month we'll hit the one-year-of-trying mark. It's our personal deadline, and it's a little scary.

At first, we weren't really planning, per se, but as the months passed, we started being more conscious. I’m searching for information I never thought I’d want to know!

I don’t recognize this body anymore – one minute up, the next… down. It’s unpredictable, which frustrates every effort to make a baby.

We know it will happen. We're so sure, we've already named you! We just have that condition, you know… the we want what we want and we want it now” condition. We’re so ready for you, Isaiah. We just can’t wait to meet you. We've imagined what you'll look like, be like...
We love you so much already.

We'll wait for you. We're ready when you are.
Mom

*As dated, you see I wrote this letter in May this year. The very next month, we had reached our "deadline", and I had a dream. There was a nurse and she took some blood tests. She came back with the results and said, "you better start taking those iron tabs, you're pregnant". And so I thought about that dream all day. Probably into the next day, I can't recall. But I finally decided to get a test. Alone. I didn't want to get Husband too excited. As a single line started to appear, I thought - ah well, negative. I didn't expect anything more. But then a second line appeared, and my heart raced as it got darker. Months later, the doctor told us we're having a boy, but we knew that already - we had asked for a boy, we had asked for you, Isaiah (click on the American flag for pronunciation, here).

Few people knew we were trying, even less knew how long it had been. We didn't want to make a fuss, because we knew it would happen. Besides, we wouldn't speak our fears into the atmosphere. It was a desire we had openly revealed only to God.  Now it's just ten weeks until we meet you. God always does it. I've experienced that He knows my heart, and He knows my heart's every desire. It's often easier said than done, but I'll continue to call things into being, and trust in His perfect timing.

You survived this very personal, soppy post. I will be taking a break from blogging for a while. I hope to write an odd post here and there, though. In the meantime, have a great festive season. See you soon!

School Days

Shirt Dress: Traffic; Leggings: Mr Price Maternity; Trench Vest/Dress: Karen Millen
Shoes: Cotton On; Clutch/IPad  Sleeve: Topshop
Collar: Sass Diva; Watch: Gifted Michael Kors; Ring: Gifted

I noticed a pattern on the blog lately (mommy wear), so I wanted to mix it up a little. Although I'm not a fan of leggings, I'm pleased with the outcome of today's look. Some funk, no?

This hair puff reminds me of my high-school days - I had my hair like this all. the. time! Oh, to turn back the hands of time... nope, I won't go back. To grow up is a beautiful thing.

Thanks for coming by. Hope you're having a good day!

Awkward & Awesome Wednesday

Dress: Pure; Shoes: Mr Price; Bag: Sandton City's Fashion Week 2012
Necklace: Woolworths; Sunglasses: China Town

Awkward:
- Me, and these sunglasses - when it's obvious that there's no sunshine.
- By the way, I'm pretty embarrassed for people wearing sunglasses indoors. Take. it. off.
- Photo-overload. Sorry.
- So glad this bag's got my back - literally - 'cos the rear seems very, um, voluptuous today.
- Getting up from the couch, these days. But I've mastered the side-roll-and-up technique. I'm a talented girl.
- Sometimes I think Baby wants to get out, and it looks really weird from my point-of-view.
- Baby Daddy making a video of the attempted escape.
- ...and that video revealed what my bump looks like, from the navel down (awkward point a.). People, the dark line on my belly (awkward point b. - it's ridiculously dark) is not straight. I mean, above-navel line and below-navel line do not line up (that's point c.). This has got to be a problem.
- It's not that awkward, but I have a really bad hole in my tooth since a filling fell out. It's very awkward when you consider the fact that I made Husband touch it. I really have to sort it out.
- Standing up, I cannot see my toes.

Awesome:
- 10 Weeks til Baby. Really. This is awesome deluxe!
- The nightly fruit feast I indulge in.
- This dress. For one, it's pocketed!
- My underwear drawer. It looks amazing since a minor reshuffle. Well, I think it's awesome.
- Hotdogs, minus the heartburn.
- The stranger that gave me a sweet compliment when I wasn't feeling great. Thank you nice lady.
- Watching kids pray. It's a lot of fun!
- No stretch marks. Keep at it belly, you're doing good.
- I have a new appreciation for my body, by the way. How does it stretch like this?! And there's a person in here? Amazeballs (sorry, I actually say that a lot).
- Baby really breaks out the moves to Michael Buble and other jazzy tunes. I love a kid with good taste.
- I've figured out how to tie my shoes. This is a milestone.

It's my Birthday

Dress: Pure; Shoes: ALDO; Bag: Sowearto; Neckpiece: Sass Diva; Watch: Gifted Michael Kors; Sunglasses: Fashion Express

It's my Birthday so I'm going to skip Awkward & Awesome Wednesday okay? I've run out of time, and need lots of time to dig those awkward moments from the back of my mind where I've buried them! Besides, I'd much rather speak about my Birthday :) Among a list of spoils from Husband is this Michael Kors watch he surprised me with this morning. I've been drooling over it for months now, so I'm thrilled - it's the masculine accessory every lady needs!

As much as I love receiving gifts, Birthdays make me appreciate the people in my life so much more. Isn't that what it's all about? I'm so in awe of the great family and friends I have. God's put so many special people in my life and, because of that, I look forward to every new year!

On my 9th Birthday, my grandfather passed away. Every Birthday since that day I think of him, the strong character he displayed, and the great memories he left behind. I'm also reminded that we should not take our loved ones for granted. Life's not about stuff, it's about people.

Thankful Tuesday

Dress: Pure; Shoes & Neckpiece: Mr Price; Bag: Sowearto; Sunglasses: Fashion Express

[Things I'm thankful for.]
The biggest blessing ever, my husband.
A blow-dryer. I missed this hair.
Not having to worry about tomorrow, because God's got it.
A plan. Getting things done is so much easier when you've got one.
The little break that's so close now.
Compliments. I hope I give them enough too.
Another birthday, tomorrow :)
29 Weeks. Where'd the time go?
The future. I'm anxious, but so excited. God's been so good.

Thanks for these pictures, Lerato.

Downtime

Pants & Mint Top: Pure; White t-shirt: Jay Jay's; Shoes: Mr Price
Beads: Petro Carls; Sunglasses: Woolworths

As with everyone I'm sure, the year has taken its toll on me. I'm ready for a break. Or, maybe I'm just eagerly anticipating the break that's coming my way. I can't wait for the downtime, just to enjoy the nothingness.

Oh, but there's lots to do! I'll be getting things ready for Baby. You know... meticulous cleaning, re-arranging of furniture (don't worry that won't be me), maybe a fresh coat of paint on the walls (again, no thanks), and getting stuff for the little person. I love a good home re-do!

Hopefully, we'll spot some stuff we like this weekend. We'll check out the Baby Expo, and rummage through antique furniture stores - maybe we'll find a nice cabinet there?! I'd love a pretty antique. Say a little prayer will ya?!

Thanks to Smanga for these pictures.

Happy Weekend! I hope you're doing something fun.

Navy. Mint. Neon.

Skirt: Pure; Top: Jay Jay's; Blazer: Trubok; Shoes & Neckpiece: Mr Price; Bag: Gifted Prada

I just liked this combination. These colours are all from the same side of the spectrum, you know... greens and blues, and I think it works. I find myself reaching for more neon accents these days - it adds an unexpected element to a basic look.

On another note - ignore my somber face. I'm smiling inside, I promise.

Awkward & Awesome Wednesday

Dress: Pure; Denim Cropped Jacket: Mr Price; Shoes: Gino Paoli
Bag: Gifted Prada; Sunglasses: Woolworths; Earrings: Gifted

Awkward:
- Zips. I've decided, the bump's not the awkward one.
- Misplacing my makeup - and going without it for a day. The awkward part was my bland face, on a work trip to Durban.
- I found a sample foundation sachet in my bag, and used it. Shame.
- I also applied lots of other stuff from tester tubes at a makeup counter at the airport. Double shame.
- Admitting these shameful deeds. That's awkward.
- When steak just won't budge, no matter how long you chew - and it ends up in a serviette (you know how it ends up there... when no one is looking). Stop judging.
- Forcing the second half of your meal down because you feel too guilty to leave it behind when your host picked the restaurant.
- You go in for a hug, when the other person expected a handshake. I thought we were on that level, okay?
- A calamari starter that just didn't make a good start to an office Christmas lunch.
- Sleep, these days.

Awesome:
- The foundation sachet, and the tester tubes. Hey, they did the job.
- Seeing Baby blink, suck and swallow. Awesome awesome.
- Seeing Husband beam with pride at these moves.
- That blinking baby weighs 1,2 kg. Keep piling 'em on, Baby.
- My doctor saying I'll probably be in heels until the end. She said it.
- This girly dress from Pure.
- Um. I really like my legs these days.
- About two weeks until a break from work. Counting. the. days.
- Nice hospital people.
- Finding that I do still have space for all my shoes. That's the power of a good clean.
- Bows. Studs. Together. On a pretty pair of flats Husband got me from Topshop.
- Speaking of which, Topshop is awesome. I like their edge, and they've got a good denim range (swooning over the dresses!). Prices are on par with Zara. Shop their investment pieces.

Lerato took these pictures. You're awesome Lerato!

Thanks for coming by. What's been awkward/awesome lately?
