Green, with Envy

When you don't know what to do, how about an awkward pose?

Too many women (and men, mind you) are unhappy with themselves. We're always too fat, too thin, too pale, too dark, too tall, too short... the list is endless. It also goes beyond the borders of physical appearance and onto profession, possessions, happiness... Essentially, we end up comparing ourselves to others.

“Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other.” Galatians 5: 26

I've found a good article on ways to help you stop comparing yourself to others here. In a nutshell, here are a few ways:

  • Admit that you're doing it, then change focus - stop the thought dead in its tracks.
  • Count your own blessings, and focus on your own strengths, yet be OK with imperfections.
  • Don't knock down others, instead challenge a jealous spirit by uplifting others.
But first, I think, check your heart. If you're envious of another's appearance for instance, it may be because your self esteem is low. Focus then, on boosting your confidence by spending time with people who make you feel good about yourself, and spend some time on your own appearance. Wear clothes that make you feel good - wear clothes that flatters you - and wear colours that you like - keep your hair looking good - keep everything neat, for example.

And, find sollace in knowing that nobody is perfect, really. ;)
